It’s About Helping, Nothing Else.

Here is the article from the Danville Advocate about my Commons 4 Kids program !Click Here! The article is great but I do wanna clear up the last paragraph; we do NOT keep 10% of any cards donated or purchased to be donated. I was trying to say that when I buy packs for my own personal collection, I only keep about 10% of those. If I buy a pack with 12 cards (Topps), I usually keep 3 or so and put the rest in my donation box. Other than that, the article is GREAT, Ms. King is extremely nice and hopefully folks will see it and either donate cards to us or find a spot of their own to donate them to.

I did want to write a quick response to some of my atheist friends who have asked “why isn’t atheism mentioned in the article?”

The fact is, my religious opinions didn’t come up and I made it a point NOT to bring it up. We NEVER bring up any type of religious or political views or thoughts when we donate anything; there is no point in it. We donate to 100% kids and I PROMISE that those kids don’t care what we think or what my personal opinions are; they just appreciate the help.

There is always a time to discuss your opinions and then there is a time to keep your mouth shut.

Here is a direct quote, from myself, that I truly love and I wanted to quote it because I said it awhile back and I really like it – “my religious or political views have nothing to do with helping someone, nor do theirs.”

The spot that we dropped off the cards to yesterday clearly says that it’s “faith based” and that doesn’t affect anything for me; they help kids who need it and that is the end of the situation.

If the journalist had brought up my religious or political opinions, I would have politely asked that we not discuss that; and it wasn’t brought up (hopefully out of respect.)

I don’t do charity stuff in order to make the world see me, an atheist, in a “nicer” light because that would defeat the entire purpose of helping people.

I’m an atheist who believes in doing nice things for others; I don’t do nice things for others because I want them to know that I’m a “nice” atheist.

It’s really a simple concept; if you see someone that needs help and you can help them, then do it…your differences are simply something you can discuss later down the road.

Love, Peace and Sharkyness!
